That is quite a difference in weight between the two but I think the steel one will hold up better. I think you could run other it with little damage.
My chow came out of cans, C-rations. All we had was the triox to heat our meals or make a wood fire and fill our helmet (iron pot not plastic as today) with water to boil. When the water was hot we put the C-rations in to heat. The same hot water was used for shaving and bathing if we were so inclined. God, those were the days. Semper Fi :-)

I just bought a Trangia and wondered how I would put it out without damaging the ring. Thank you for the good ideas.

Great video ! the swedish army trangia does not come with a simmer ring. you can buy them on ebay, but they are quite rare.

  4. rykochet says:

where did you get that stove

  5. tigerboyav says:

hey hiram also if you forget that nice simmer ring that Drak made well you could use the pop top lid if you have to

  6. hiramcook says:

I got this setup from the local Army/Navy store.

  7. leetshots says:

incdently the commercial trangia simmer ring will more or less work, just doesnt fit quite as flush

  8. leetshots says:

oh and the simmer ring is also useful for putting the stove out

I went to the local camping shop and got a simmer ring today, £3-50 I like the rings i’ve seen made on YT out of cans and i’ll make a snuffer so thanks for that. The reason it pops is likely to be the fact it lays on the top of the stove and doesn’t sit flush at the base, try making a deeper one i think it’ll cure the probem.. interesting to see. I opted for the aluminium version, lighter and seems to take all that can be thrown at it, like the idea of the ssteel one though… great vid, thanks

Good sets these, the stainless steel one is by far the best though.Good quality Swedish kit,and most are a good few years old by the time they arrive on the market as surplus items.Mine is dated 1960,s.

  11. MrJanesaddiction says:

To put out?,remove ring seal from cap, drop cap over burner, allow to cool and replace the rubber ring. This avoids it being cremated in the process.

Snuffer! Great idea, good review thanks for posting, tell us how to make your simmer cone thingy, it’s cool.

One place would be on eBay. Or check with your local Army/Navy store. Does anyone reading this know of a catalog store that carries them?

  15. soulstar1963 says:

to save the trouble of taking out and replacing the rubber o ring simply turn the lid over and put that onto the burner for a split second ive always found that will put the stove out without damaging the o ring

    Good video,
Just purchased one of these on ebay. All the other sites that sell these seem to be in the U.K. The kit should be delivered next week. Can’t wait to try it out.

Hi got one three weeks ago and spent 2 weeks in the scotish highlands, exellent piece of kit, I got a tiny spray bottle and put olive oil in and gave the pans a quick spray prior to frying fits in the pan and lasts for ages Going back up again at the weekend for a month trangia the first thing on my list, Cheers Alan

I have 4 of these stove / mess kits and I love them !!! No moving parts to break !!!!

  23. HitchHikeHarry says:

I have used one of these kits for a few years now, excellent but heavy. You don’t need that flashing strip as a pot cover as the top pot/pan is made to fit as a lid on the bottom pot (note the groove). The burner is too heavy and holds the smell of the meth – nasty. Try the little burner made by “Highland” just as good but lighter and no smell ($6 on Ebay). The H/L burner has simmer ring. Also do not leave meth/denatured alcohol in the plastic bottle for a long time as it melts the plastic.

  24. tjalolx says:
